SWITCH TO SOLAR AND SAVE!

Solar power is a clean, renewable energy source that benefits homes and businesses in sunny climates like North Texas. However, even though more people are choosing to power their property with the sun, it can still be difficult to find specific information about how to make the switch to solar energy. At Kosmos Solar, we believe educated customers are the best customers, so we’ve created this step-by-step guide to help you know what to expect during your conversion to a green energy source.

First, let’s dispel a few myths about solar panels. We can install solar panels on the vast majority of roofs, regardless of size, shape, or slope. Today’s solar panel arrays are highly customizable, and our team of experienced installers knows how to configure them for the highest efficiency on any roof type. In the very rare instance that rooftop solar panels don’t work for your house, we can install a ground-mounted array that functions just the same. Anyone in North Texas can benefit from solar power, and Kosmos has the know-how to make it happen.

Second, solar power is a stable energy source even during cloudy weather and at night. That’s because North Texas gets much more sunlight than most places in the United States. Solar panels here convert more than enough sunlight into electricity to power the homes they’re attached to. In fact, they generate surplus energy which is sent to the electric grid and drawn upon during power outages, storms, and nighttime hours. You will always have a reserve of solar power to draw on.

Finally, there is a generous federal solar tax credit available to offset the cost of solar panel installation, but it is dwindling each year. It will be gone completely in 2022, so now is a great time to end your dependence on fossil fuels and give solar energy a try.

Now let’s take a detailed look at the residential solar panel installation process.

It Starts with a Phone Call

Once you’ve decided to make the switch to solar, just give us a call or use our online form to schedule a free solar energy evaluation. We will come to your home or commercial building and take measurements, observe the physical condition of your roof, and make sure everything is ready for solar panel installation.

Next, we’ll present you with a written estimate for the installation and discuss your tax credit and financing options. If you choose to proceed, our talented team will pull all the required building permits and provide documentation to code enforcement. If your locality requires special permits for solar panel installation, we will make sure it’s all taken care of. Remember: In Texas, you have the right to have solar panels installed, even if your neighborhood has an HOA.

The actual installation comes next. If we determine that solar ground mounts would best serve you, we will have the opportunity to orient them in an ideal placement and tilt angle to receive the maximum amount of sunlight each day. Otherwise, we will take your roof’s dimensions into consideration and come up with a panel configuration that works best.

Once we’ve decided how to lay out the panels, we carefully drill holes into the rafters to prevent them from splitting, taking care to ensure the flashing fits beneath the roof’s shingles to prevent leakage. Then we secure the mounts with steel bolts. After the bolts are installed, we seal the area around them to make it airtight so that solar heat can’t escape.

Now it’s time to attach the solar panels to the mounts. We measure the top, bottom and middle rails to make sure they are all equal and in alignment. We leave about a quarter of a foot of clearance between the panels and your rooftop to allow for airflow. This helps the panels perform at their best.

After the panels have been mounted, we connect them to your electrical supply by running the wiring up to each solar panel array. We install a micro inverter beneath the panels so that they are wired parallel to each other, and then we ground the entire system by attaching a copper grounding wire to each inverter. We settle each solar panel onto its stanchion and secure it.

Finally, we get your rooftop solar array hooked up by extending the wires from the solar panels and connecting them to your new electrical meter and sub-panel. Now you’re ready to enjoy energy savings and feel good about powering your property with solar energy!
