About Grand Prairie

Grand Prairie, TX, is centrally located in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, just east of Arlington. It has a population of about 200,000 people over 81 square miles. It has easy access to Interstates 20 and 30, as well as the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. The city has a thriving aviation and defense industry, with three of its largest employers being Lockheed Martin, Bell Helicopter, and Vought Aircraft Industries.

Grand Prairie was founded as Drechman, TX, in 1863. The founder bought the land for $200, a broken wagon, and a team of oxen. He traded half of the land to the T&P Railroad in 1876 in exchange for the railroad system adding the town to their route. The US Postal Service, citing maps drawn as early as 1850, renamed the town Grand Prairie. It was incorporated as a city in 1909.

Today, Grand Prairie is a massive distribution hub with millions of square feet of warehouses and manufacturing plants. High-end housing communities, including some for active seniors, are being built around the Joe Pool Lake area. Area attractions include Trader’s Village, a “Texas-sized” flea market; the Theatre at Grand Prairie, a popular concert venue; Lone Star Park, a Thoroughbred racing track; and Ripley’s Believe It or Not and Palace of Wax.

Weather in Grand Prairie

If you live in Grand Prairie, you might be wondering which renewable energy solutions are available to you. Because of its sunny weather, Grand Prairie is an ideal location for solar panels. The area has an average of 234 dunny days every year, higher than the nation’s average of 205.

Grand Prairie, like the rest of Texas, has long days in the summer months and shorter days in the winter, but even the shortest days provide 10 hours of sunlight. You can expect 13 hours or more of sunlight from mid-April through the end of August.

Grand Prairie Solar Panels

To perform their best, solar panels need plenty of sunshine and unobstructed exposure to the sun. Grand Prairie fits both of these requirements with its flat landscape and sunny weather. Rooftop solar panels in Grand Prairie could be expected to produce a large amount of green energy.

Your roof size, slope, and orientation also play a role in determining how much energy your panels will provide. Don’t let a small rooftop dissuade you from contacting Kosmos Solar. We can use different panel sizes and configurations to suit most roofs. In the rare event that your roof is unsuitable, we can install a ground-mounted solar array that will fit the bill.
