Solar Panel Ground Mounts

Most of us are accustomed to seeing roof-mounted solar panels, but those aren’t always the best choice for homes with limited roof space, roof obstructions like skylights and chimneys, or roofs that face the wrong direction or slope at the wrong angle. If your roof falls into one of these categories, call Kosmos Solar today to get a free quote for solar panel ground mounts in Dallas, Arlington, or San Antonio, TX!

Ground-Mounted Solar Panels

There are several reasons to consider ground-mounted solar panels instead of a rooftop solar array.

  • Your roof isn’t ideal. Rooftop solar panels work at their highest efficiency when there is plenty of roof space, the rooftop is clear of obstructions, the pitch is about 20–35 degrees, and the slope faces south. Solar panels will still produce a good amount of energy, but if your roof is small and your home uses a lot of energy each month, it might be better to install ground-mounted solar panels.
  • They are cost-effective. The start-up cost for solar panel ground mounts is higher than that of rooftop solar panels, but because they can be sized to meet your home’s energy consumption, ground-mounted panels can actually save you money over time. They can also be placed wherever conditions are ideal to get the most energy conversion.

  • They are non-invasive. Solar panel ground mounts don’t require us to cut into your rooftop, and the bracings used in standard ground mount systems are lightweight and simple to remove. It’s much easier to transport ground-mounted solar panels to a new property if you move and want to take them with you.

Other Considerations

Ground-mounted solar panels might require special permission or permits. You might also need to get your soil tested, as soil containing lots of large rocks will make the installation more difficult. Finally, we recommend you have your property line surveyed to make sure the panels aren’t installed too close to the edge of your property. In a worst-case scenario, the entire system would have to be removed and re-installed just a few feet farther away from the boundary – an expensive and time-consuming endeavor that could have been avoided.

Of course, you don’t have to go through this process alone! Kosmos Solar is always available to help you check local requirements, obtain building permits, and do whatever it takes to make your solar panel ground mounts a painless investment with great returns.
