Solar FAQS

SWITCH TO SOLAR AND SAVE!

If you’ve been considering making the switch to solar energy, you’re not alone! More North Texans are going solar than ever before, and it’s a great time to have solar panels installed while the Federal Solar Tax Credit is still in effect. Don’t let your hesitation keep you from taking advantage of a great deal and making a positive impact on the environment. Let Kosmos Solar walk you through the most frequently asked questions we receive. We hope you’ll be convinced to switch to solar energy wherever you are in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex!

How do Solar Panels Work?

Solar panels are affixed to your roof, where they absorb the sun’s rays. The energy from the sunlight is then turned into electricity that is used to power your home at night and during power outages and cloudy conditions. With the sunny conditions in North Texas, you will most likely produce far more energy than you need. The surplus gets sent to the electric grid and you get credits that can be used to draw on that electricity in times of need.

Is My Roof Suitable for Solar Panels?

Probably, yes. Solar panel arrays are highly customizable and come in different sizes. Our experienced technicians have been able to install rooftop solar panels on 99% of the roofs we’ve been called to work on. We can arrange the panels in a way that makes the most of the roof space you have. In the rare instance that we cannot find a suitable arrangement for your rooftop, we can discuss ground-mounted solar panel solutions.

Will Solar Panels Increase My Property Value?

Yes! Improving net worth and adding value to your estate is one of the best perks a switch to solar energy can have. In Texas, your property value goes up when you install solar panels, but your property tax burden does not. As far as the amount of your property value increase, a study by Berkeley National Laboratory shows that a property’s value increases by an average of $5,911 for every kilowatt installed.

What are the Environmental Benefits of Using Solar Power?

Regular electricity is powered by coal and other fossil fuels. Their use not only depletes resources that can never be replaced, but their extraction and processing tear up the earth and leech harmful toxins into the soil, air, and water. Solar power is a clean, renewable energy source that helps the environment and saves you money.

Does the Government Help with Installation Costs?

Yes. The Federal Solar Tax Credit allows you to deduct up to 30% of the cost of installing solar energy systems in homes and businesses in America. There is no cap on the value of the system you install. Kosmos Solar encourages you to take advantage of this tax credit now; it will shrink to 26% in 2020 and 22% in 2021. In 2022, there will be no more tax credit for residential solar panel installations.
